This book follows The Odyssey on the same level. The main creativity being shown here is the retelling of the ancient myths in modern-day New York City. It was fun to see how Riordan creatively converted the myths to fit modern times.
As the camp's magical border weakens, Percy and his half-brother cyclops together with Annabeth sets out on another adventure to find their satyr friend Grover - who's found himself in an inter-species entanglement in which he doesn't quite see eyes to eye with his suitor, Polyphemus - and retrieve the Golden Fleece as a cure for the poisoning of Thalia's tree. The Golden Fleece, disguised as red-and-gold jacket with a glittery Omega sign on the pocket, is hidden somewhere on the Sea of Monsters where Scylla and Charybdis resides, where the Sirens who lured sailors to their death eternally sing the songs of truth, and where the evil sorceress CC aka Circe turns men into cute guinea pigs (because pigs are so smelly and large and difficult to keep).
Only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new name: The Bermuda Triangle.
